\"I've been a fan of Malwarebytes for years and am thrilled to be joining the team. I'm also excited about being involved in the creation of new anti-malware capabilities for the Mac,\" said Reed. \"Mac users need protection against what is becoming an epidemic of adware.\"
I am currently forced to use an old MacBook running Mac OS 10.6.8 and I have been unable to successfully download Malwarebytes. I am thinking it is not available for such an old OS. Can someone please confirm or deny if this is true If it's true, does anyone know of a (free) anti-virus and/or anti-malware program I can download for Mac OS 10.6.8 I don't have the resources to buy any software at this time.
I've been following similar questions from Snow Leopard users for two or three years now and never saw any answer involving free anti-virus or anti-malware (AV & AM are actually the same thing, though the former is technically mis-named). In fact, the only AV / AM software that I'm aware of that's available today for 10.6.8 is ClamXAV 2.19.2 which is only free during a thirty day trial and will stop working if a subscription is not purchased.
The Mac adware removal software I've written about before includes AdwareMedic, Intego Mac Internet Security X8, and ClamXav. The first two apps require OS X Lion or higher, but ClamXav still works on Snow Leopard, according to its developer.
I'll be perfectly honest: I like AdwareMedic the best of any of these apps. I've had the best luck nuking the adware that's infested my family's and my customers' Macs. But if you're really not comfortable upgrading to something newer than Snow Leopard, ClamXav will work too.
On a fresh install of OS X 10.6.8 I had iTunes 10 and noticed that on the first \"Software update\" OS X wants to install iTunes 11. I unchecked the box next to iTunes 11 and then I uninstalled iTunes manually:
Dante....your recommendation in (1) to use AdwareMedic didn't work....I have an older OSX ver 10.6.8 and got an error message taht this program is only compatible with OSX ver 10.7 of higher. Please advise.

Most registry cleaner software promises to speed up your system which is not really possible. These cleaners may also come with unwanted additions such as adware or spyware. Our System Registry Repair allows you to do some basic cleanup and repair in a number of categories where changes might positively affect user experience, for instance helping Windows find misplaced Help files. It can either delete or repair broken entries by offering you you the options, for example, of locating or searching for files that have been moved. In general, we recommend that you do not use Registry Cleaners, Optimizers or Defragmentation utilities unless you are an experienced user.
Two things: There is a advertisement that is highly misleading for -buildcraft-mod.com/ that is a adware thing, and also if you edit a sub user page (say User:pokechu22/Anvil/Doc, a page that will hopefully become a good anvil template but I am no good with HTML), it says \"This is a user page. Generally, this page should only be created and edited by Pokechu22/Anvil. Please visit their talk page if you want to leave them a message.\", but the correct username is pokechu22.
